- 40mm insulated panels
- Full perimeter weather seals
- Glazed panel options
A sectional garage door lifts in hinged panels and runs back along the ceiling, which is why it is the standard door on newer Alberton housing. The later developments and estates through Meyersdal, Alberante, Brackendowns, Meyersig and Mayberry Park were built with the headroom for it, and it gives the best seal and the best appearance of any garage door type.
Sectional garage doors we supply in Alberton
- Steel sectional doors in ribbed, panelled and flush profiles.
- Insulated sectional doors with a foam core for garages used as living or work space.
- Aluminium and glazed sections where the door is part of the elevation.
- Timber-look finishes for the appearance without the maintenance.
Headroom and side room
A standard sectional door needs around three hundred millimetres above the opening and clear space each side for the tracks. Where an Alberton garage does not have it, low-headroom track kits solve most cases and a roll-up door solves the rest. We check at survey rather than on installation day.
Sectional doors on sloped driveways
On the ridge at Meyersdal and Meyersig, a rising or falling driveway meets a level door in a way that matters. A rising approach brings vehicles and runoff up against the bottom section, and a falling one changes how the door clears the ground. We set the threshold and specify the bottom seal for the actual slope rather than fitting a flat-site detail on a hill.
Insulated sectional doors
An insulated door makes a real difference where the garage is a workshop, a gym, an office or a flatlet. Insulated panels are also stiffer and considerably quieter, which matters on a wide double and more still in a complex where the garage shares a wall with a bedroom.
Sealing against dust and storms
Sectional doors seal better than any other type because the panel face sits against the frame all the way round. Bottom, side and head seals keep out dust and driven rain, which is the complaint that brings most people to replace an old tip-up door.
Springs, balance and safety
A sectional door is balanced by torsion assemblies, and that balance is what protects the motor. We rate them to the door mass and the cycle count, fit cable safety devices where the design calls for them, and check the balance by hand at every service.
Replacing a tip-up door with a sectional
This is common Alberton work. The old frame usually stays, the tracks are new, and the opening is measured as it is rather than as the plan says. We remove and dispose of the old door as part of the job.
What a sectional garage door costs in Alberton
Priced on width and height, panel type, insulation, finish and automation. Single and double doors are quoted separately because the balance and operator specification changes with the mass.
Common questions
About sectional garage doors
Around 300mm to 450mm of clear space above the lintel for a standard track, though low-headroom kits recover part of that. Measure to the ceiling or the nearest beam, whichever is lower, and send us the figure before you order anything.
The panels are hinged and run on rollers in a track rather than curling around a barrel, and the section joints seal against each other. On an insulated door the foam core also damps the drumming that makes a single-skin door boom.
Yes. Glazed panels can go into any section, most often the second row down so daylight comes in at eye level. Toughened, frosted and tinted glass are all available, and an aluminium-framed full-view door is a step further again.
They have more moving parts than a tip-up door — rollers, hinges, cables and springs — so an annual service matters more. In exchange the wear is spread across many small parts that are cheap to replace individually.
